All the porn blogs of Tumblr are not only raging over Tumblrs change, but they’re planning a mass exodus and claiming it’s the end for Tumblr. I keep clicking some of the blogs hoping maybe one is just a variety blog. No just more porn.
What am I missing? Other then my nsfw blog being deleted and no more nsfw, what is it that I’m missing here? My blog is sfw, I reblog memes and things, and use this to communicate with others. Is there something about this change that impacts me?
I like porn too, but… damn.
in general, a heavy-handed change like this that’s targetting porn ends up leading to more bans on other content. Yes, they say that some erotic stuff won’t get banned, but i genuinely don’t have any hope that tumblr’s executives are going to maintain this as we move into the future.
look it this way – you might not get affected, but your friends who might rely on nsfw content (whether it be art or whatever) will be. their content will probably get flagged and those posts will probably be set to private – enough reports, their blog might get set to private, if not banned or deleted.
there’s an appeal process and of course that’s good… but how long will it take for something to get appealed? how long will it take for people to notice things got flagged and are private? this isn’t even counting possible abuse of the system, this is purely based on their algorithms.
tumblr is a business and they have every right to change their policies. as consumers, though, we have the right to dislike these changes and seek alternatives to it. whether or not people stick to an alternative platform or come back is another thing altogether.
