WoW Roleplay and Sharding

So, there was a thread recently, started by @olivia-daae.

In her own words, our problem:

However, our enjoyment in the game is quickly fading. Our communities are being forced to split between Stormwind/Orgrimmar, and those with enough patience to plan out server events nightly, and spend up to an hour preparing/gathering roleplayers to add into a raid merely so we can enjoy a few hours a night of roleplay in Boralus/Dazar’alor

Blizzard, world sharding is killing our communities. We understand why it’s implemented for newer content, and honestly upon launches we completely agree it would be implemented into the game. Alas, it continues long after launch, and we sit here forced to twiddle our thumbs, play other games, or simply wait until enough people are online that we can access to attempt to gather a raid so we can roleplay in these new areas which you’ve made extremely aesthetically pleasing and tempting for almost every roleplayer out there.

It saw an interesting turn in discussion in the form of an anonymous gnome who supplied a link, stating that “bumping” threads was against code of conduct.

However, that isn’t the only thing that’s against code of conduct.

I found this…

Now, I by no means am saying “Give up, we’ve lost the war” but I am saying there is a better way to fight it. Because that little paragraph should tell you we’re going about this all wrong. And maybe, perhaps, if we kept bumping and liking, and bringing attention to the post, it might see a blue and catch around the office. But it’s unlikely.

But, fear not. I have an alternative.

In-game, in the help menu there is a submit suggestion feature. And while you may think one person submitting one thing about rp realms seems useless, if we all raise our voices together, in a manner they have clearly set out for our use? I’m sure something will come of it.

But Kat, I don’t even now where that menu is?

Well, let me help you. Hit escape.

See that help button at the top, just below the Knight Pepe? Start there.

In this screenshot I’m running ElvUI, so if your menu looks a little different, that’s why.

The next step will look something like this.

See that Submit Suggestion button on the bottom left? Yup, you guessed it. That’s your next step.

Now comes the tricky part, but it is also the most important part.. In the text box, you need to write down a suggestion, in your own words, so that Blizzard can understand the problem and what you think the best solution is.

A few have already been suggested in that thread by Daae, which can again be found here, which include but are not limited to:

  • Re-utilizing the Warmode for an RP Mode. Replace being flagged for PvP with being flagged for RP and you get the gist of it.
  • Turning off sharding, specifically after the first major wave of activity after an XPac release.

One thing that we should all be sure to make a point of, is letting Blizzard know that this feature, without their knowing, is unintentionally killing our interest in their game. RP is a community based pass time. It requires a community. And sharding has split us up and made the game less fun.

The trick here is to be well thought out, well mannered, and constructive.

“I hate sharding. Remove it.” won’t help. We need to be suggesting solutions. If you can’t think of a suggestion, just use one of the above! Remember, we aren’t submitting a ticket.

And if you don’t feel comfortable doing that, share this post, or tell your friends to do the same. I know not everyone has a tumblr and this post will only get so far, but word of mouth is our strongest tool as a community, so lets use it.

It’s worth a try guys.

At this point. If we want things to work, we need to try different avenues. The forums are often overlooked unfortunately. @jackleansparrow has written step by step on how we can do this. As stated before this NEEDS to be a community effort. I’m going to do what is suggested here and I suggest others do it as well.

I know others suggested reddit and twitter as well. At this point anything to catch their attention which isn’t against Code Of Conduct (Which apparently doesn’t want people using the forums for actual issues). Overall, coming together as a community is what will solve this!

PLEASE TRY THE IN-GAME METHOD POSTED BY @jackleansparrow!

Boosting

@questifer I know you care about the RP community and I’m not tagging you to tell you to fix anything, just bringing some good stuff to attention

This is a great discussion and I’m keeping an eye on it. That does not mean that anything will happen. Just a friendly reminder that this is still a personal blog so nothing I do or say here has any bearing on my work. All the same, please continue sharing your concerns/thoughts with the team!
