So apparently the novellas tell basically the whole story of the Burning of Teldrassil, providing a lot more context and character moments that help make the story definitely more digestible, understandable, and slightly less stupid.

So just another case of the in-game WoW story showing you like 20% of the story while the actual fully detailed plot is in a novel or something.
