I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – there’s abiding by the given lore, and demanding people accept and obey your literal FFXIV OC/dead NPC character as canon. Who do you honestly think is the bigger elitist, the one going by the book, or the one expecting people to break their own character’s interpretation of the world around them so their own toon can fit in it?
I’m going to respond a bit more lengthily to this one because I feel like it.
This is a stupid fucking question and a stupid fucking argument. Nobody is forcing anybody to accept their story. If people who like to go by the book want to RP by the book, nobody is stopping them. If people want to make their own canon and interpretation of the world, nobody is stopping them either. It’s only when these two sides get their stupid fucking panties in a twist and think they have a right to tell the other side what to do that it gets ugly.
This ask is the epitome if stupid, because it is fundamentally misunderstanding and misrepresenting the motto of “RP what you want” by framing the question against those that break lore.
“RP what you want” is just that – RP what you want. RP lore. RP breaking lore. RP a farmer. RP a pirate. RP Garona’s long lost sister. RP Kadgar’s girlfriend. RP Thrall’s second fucking coming as Orc Jesus. RP a space cat from Sonic World. RP whatever you goddamn feel like RPing.
“RP what you want” is not synonymous with “I can RP whatever I want and you must RP with me and accept everything I’m doing in your own RP”.
Stop misrepresenting a very simple and wholesome statement just so you can get your rocks off by telling people that your way of RP is the right way and that everyone should do the exact same, whether or not you’re in the same story. Stick to RP with those that share your ideals and will give you the story that you’re looking for. Don’t mock or question others that want to do something different.
It’s really that fucking easy.
I’m going to respond a bit more lengthily because your argument is legitimately fucking retarded.
Just walking away only really works in circumstances where the two people interacting really do have nothing else keeping them together. Take a random walk up for example. If you meet some random idiot roleplaying some really stupid shit, then yeah. You can walk away.
Now, what do you think happens when that idiot is friends of a friend of yours? What about when they’re your guildmate? What about when that person is – for reasons beyond their shitty character choices – kept around in the same circle or community?
Let’s be honest. Most of the people that get this sort of shit written about them are probably in category B in one way or another. Whether that’s being part of a guild that’s acknowledged in the community or whether they’ve just got a large following and tend to show up at the same public events.
“Just go your own way lol” isn’t always going to address these issues and a lot of time folks are going to be forced to keep their peace just so they can stay around all the other friends or contacts that put up with that shit for whatever reason.
That’s probably why a lot of folks are making secrets like these in the first place.
Also: Who the fuck made you grand arbiter of right and wrong when it comes to secrets like these? Did this hit a little too close to home or do you just have a really high opinion of yourself?
LMAO that sure is a lot of chatter for what amounts to just trying to strain to justify being an asshole to people.
“But but but what if they’re in your social circle”
Still doesn’t give you
carte blanche
to shit on their fun, especially if they’re not forcing the issue and especially if others in that circle are comfortable dealing with it.
Like, seriously? Forced to keep their peace? Shouldn’t that be “refraining from making cruel comments?”
What you see as refraining from making cruel comments I see as not being cool with someone shitting all over lore and any other form of precedent for the sake of pushing the self-important bullshit they put into their character.
If you’re going to roleplay garbage that doesn’t fit with the lore and stretches across universes or any of that nonsense, fine. But if you go about and bring it around other people, you deserve everything you get and more.
I’d go on and explain how bringing bullshit that makes no sense into an rp environment where pretty much everyone else is playing by the rules is selfish and inconsiderate, but that would mean I believed you had even a basic idea of what it means to be personally accountable.
Go make a second life server or something if all the mean words are too much for you and the self righteous mod trying to justify this shit.
Reblogging this here for added visibility and so others can see this fool, I’m otherwise no longer interested their rampaging stupidity.
I have never seen someone so angry about something that doesn’t matter. They gotta be pretty lacking in something in their life to be this angry over other people having a fun in a way that doesn’t mesh completely with their own. Yikes with spikes.
I literally have been on tumblr since 2011 and I can say with the utmost sincerity that this is the first time I’ve had someone try to use a combo of my sexual orientation/political standing/beliefs (while mistyping them) as a reason why my opinion should be invalid. The fact that it’s over world of warcraft RP is just that cherry on top, holy shit lmao. How fucking pathetic.
Oh, I’d tag you to make sure you see it, but it’s not letting em do that (though I’m p sure you’re probably watching reblogs like a hawk anyway) but even so, I just feel like I gotta for posterity’s sake, so: @mangodiche
