DIY Paint Drying Station

flynnburgerbuilds:

When it comes to this hobby I am a big advocate of taking the DIY approach, especially if the results are functional and it can save me a bit of cash!

So here is my run down of how to make one of these paint drying stations to pop your painting sticks into when airbrushing your kits:

Now this isn’t new, I’m not claiming to have pioneered this, I just came across it online and thought it was much better than the horrible foam blocks I am currently using.

Materials:

  • Cardboard boxes or sheets (with a corrugated layer)
  • Box Cutter
  • Ruler (the longer the better)
  • An old model kit box that you are willing to sacrifice
  • Pencil or marker
  • Masking tape
  • Twenty minutes

Steps:

  • Using the ruler, take measurements of the length and height of the model box.
  • Using the pencil and the ruler mark out lines for these dimensions on the cardboard box or sheet, ensuring that the holes created by the corrugation will be running along the longer edge of your cardboard inserts.

  • Using your ruler and hobby knife, cut out the cardboard inserts and place them into the model kit box. Jam as many as you can into the box to ensure a tight fit.

  • Place the lid of the model box on top. If any of the inserts are too high, make adjustments and refit.
  • Using the ruler and hobby knife, cut the lid of the box about 1cm in from the edge.

  • What you have should like this!

  • Using the masking tape, secure the lid onto the box ensuring that the lids is on nice and tight!

  • And there you have it! It isn’t pretty but it is functional and you can customize the size and length of these to suit your needs!

Happy painting!
