I mean that’s the entire purpose of pushing the Alliance Vs. Horde warfare. No matter what people will talk about it because it affects them as players. I mean, there’s a very good reason why even 13 years later we still talk about faction warfare. It’s been the building blocks of the entire series (WC1-3) to the point straying from the norm is a big risk. There’s really no big villains that are a carry over from the days of WC3 (everyone’s favorite) now. The only thing left from this time is the faction war.
And the reason you’ll get race arguments is because in a faction war one side will probably be the bad guys and the other the good, and the justification for player bases to say the other side is the bad guys allows them to feel like they’re playing good guys. It’s a selling point, and it’s incredibly effective. To this day people still bring up Taurajo, Garithos and basically anything the big 3 races of the Horde ever do in life, and that’s both noticeable and marketable. Few people want to play the bad guys despite the story saying they are and so try to justify through various means (lol draenei are actually bad guys and deserved to become a road.) Seriously making a road out of an entire race’s remains and causing the destruction and explosion of their holy burial city is evil man.
Shouting for the Horde and for the Alliance is an iconic part of Warcraft now. Just look at the amount of youtubers, streamers and other “WoW celebrities” (I use this term loosely) that went ape shit about the cinematic specifically when Sylvanas and Anduin shouted for their respective factions.
Almost every major Warcraft panel or reveal at every Blizzcon and other conventions nearly almost always starts with someone calling for Alliance and Horde players to shout out and cheer for their faction.
There’s money in them there factions.
